Founded by Lax Pattni in 2003, Northern Testhouse (Leicester) Ltd is a proudly independent laboratory in Leicester, and one of the few remaining UK-based laboratories to offer comprehensive toy testing services to UK, EU and other international standards.

Like all other laboratories in the consumer safety field, we work to specific industry testing standards covering major markets for UK manufacturers and distributors, such as the EU, the US and Canada, Australia and New Zealand. With our state-of-the-art equipment, we can offer the accuracy needed to ensure every end customer's safety.

We specialise in testing toys, children's products, childcare articles, kitchenware and pen caps, with a strong emphasis on plastics, metals, ceramics and glassware intended for food contact. 

 

We are committed to upholding the rightly rigorous standards set by the toy industry, and we take our testing responsibilities very seriously. We hold ISO 17025 accreditation and CPSIA approval for ASTM F963 heavy metals and total lead testing. We are also members of the British Toy and Hobby Association. 

 

Our testing services cater to importers, distributors, and manufacturers worldwide with REACH regulation testing of various substances, SVHC screening, and contract laboratory testing for bespoke heavy metals. Each package of testing services is precisely tailored to your unique specifications and regulatory requirements. 

At our testing laboratory, our team of experts first evaluates each product to determine the testing required for it to meet safety standards in the country where it will be sold. While we're unable to issue certifications for countries other than the UK, we can conduct the required testing and provide guidance in our reviews. So you can be confident that your certification will be granted before you apply. 

 

We conduct all our testing on-site at our fully equipped and continually expanding laboratory. Our testing services comply with standards such as British Standards for the UK, EN71 for Europe, ASTM F963 for America, Regulation 10/2011(EU) for UK/Europe, and several REACH requirements. We also provide a comprehensive review and quality assurance service for each product.
