UK/EU Toy Safety Directive Compliance

Understanding UK/EU Toy Safety Directive (2009/48EC)

In UK/EU, toys must comply with the Toy Safety Directive 2009/48EC as amended and must bear a suitable CE Mark.

The directive applies to toys designed or intended, whether or not exclusively, for use in play by children under 14 years of age.

The directive specifies wider chemical requirements covering migration of toxic heavy metals, restricts carcinogenic mutagenic or toxic (CMR), fragrances, phthalates, BPA, PAH etc.

Purpose of CE Marking

Intended for enforcement authorities for allowing free movement of toys within EU
Not intended as a safety mark for consumers
