Children’s products are items designed for use by children, but not classified as toys. For example:
School items, such as backpacks, gym bags, lunch boxes, lunch bags, pencil cases and stationery
Footwear, including novelty slippers
Changing bags, toothbrushes, bibs
Hot water bottle covers and character warmers
At present, a specific directive or harmonised safety standards are not in place for children’s products such as back packs, novelty slippers, stationery/school sets, footwear etcIn the absence of relevant standards, the safety requirements are assessed against the closet published standards for General Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EC purposes.
Depending on the product, there may be other testing obligations, such as compliance with the REACH Regulations (EC) No 1907/2006. We will be happy to advise you on the tests your product will require.
